Solomon Greathouse b. abt 1815 - death date unknown

Solomon's relationship to his father is established through his father's estate settlement.  It appears Solomon was presumed to be dead by 1866 because the heirs listed are his children.   He married Sarah "Sally" Starcher February 12, 1841 in Jackson County VA. Sarah, a daughter of Philip and Mary Bush Starcher, was born in VA about 1825. The  heirs named in settlement of John Greathouse Sr's estate were: Mary Short, Matilda Statser/Starcher and Emiline Greathouse.  Emiline may be the middle name for Rebecca.

It is not known if or when Solomon divorced Sarah Starcher Greathouse, but Solomon is said to have died in Nashville TN after 09 Apr 1865. He enlisted in the Civil War in Ironton, Ohio on 26 Aug 1864 for a period of 3 years under the name of Solomon McDade, 44 yrs of age.  He fought with Co E 173d Ohio Infantry Volunteers. 2nd Lieutenant M. Martin took his oath. He apparently remarried to a Margaret Kelley, who applied for a widow's pension. On the card showing her application, she is listed as Margaret Greathouse; he is listed as Solomon Greathouse, alias Solomon McDade. Margaret's pension application was denied.  There is a Solomon Greathouse showing in an 1850 census for Meigs County Ohio.  He is age 30 and born in Virginia.  He is living in the household of Elijah Runnion.  We do not know if this is the same Solomon Greathouse.

Sarah Starcher Greathouse married Levi Nutter in Gilmer County on 01 Jan 1850.
