Perkins of Columbia, Richmond, Warren & Wilkes Counties

Extract of Greathouse and associated individuals.

Peter Perkins was born ca 1740, died 1803 Warren County. He was granted 500 acres of land in St. Paul's Parish (Richmond County) in 1770; in 1788, granted 200 acres in Wilkes County; and in 1784 granted 287 acres in Washington County. His wife, Sarah, died when Jethro Darden was appointed administrator of her estate.

He must have joined the Quaker settlement at Wrightsboro because he owned a lot there which adjoined lands of Nathan Jackson, before removing to Wilkes County about 1787. On 2 July 1797, Peter Perkins and his wife, Sarah, of Wilkes County deed to Peter Overby for 50 pounds, Lot No. 48 in the Town of Wrightsboro, Georgia, originally granted the said Peter Perkins in 1770. On Upton Creek, which had originally been granted to said Perkins by Sir James Wright on 6 November 1770.

1) John Perkins, in 1797 owned land on Rocky Comfort Creek in Warren County.

3) Jenny Perkins married Mr. Clowers.

4) Abigail Perkins married Mr. Kidd.

5) Abram Perkins. On 26 October 1797 in Columbia County, Abraham Perkins deeded to James Edwards 200 acres of land bounded by Jacob Greathouse, all other sides vacant at the time of survey, which has been granted to said Perkins on 3 July 1787. On 23 July 1801, John Davis, Jacob Greathouse and William Holder of Columbia County deeded to Catherine Jones and Abraham Perkins of Warren County, all distributees of Jacob Greathouse, deceased, relinquishing to John Castle, one of the Heirs, 50 acres, which was part of the estate of Jacob Greathouse. On 5 January 1802, Abraham Perkins of Warren County deed to John Knight for $100, 150 acres on Germany Creek, which was part of land grant made to Jacob Greathouse; also the adjoining 20 acres.

6) Eleanor Perkins married Jethro Darden.

7) Jemima Perkins married Mr. White.

8) Sarah Perkins married William Wilkins.

9) Elizabeth Perkins married Mr. Neal.

10) Nancy Perkins married Jacob Greathouse. She was deceased in 1801 when her father made his will.
