By Virtue of a Common Warrant granted out of his Lordships Land Office on the 9th day of August 1759, to lay out for Robert Marshall of Ann Arundle County 10 acres of land, which Warrant was on the 21st day of November 1759, assigned by the said Robert Marshall unto Harman Greathouse of Baltimore County...

I Nicholas Ruxton Gay Deputy Surveyor of Baltimore County have Surveyed & laid out for & in the name of him the said Harman Greathouse a tract or parcel of Land lying & being in the County aforesaid, Beginning at a bounded White Oak Standing on the Southside of the Piney falls & Running thence North twenty one degr. West fourteen perches, North Eighty three degr. West eighteen perches, North twenty one degr. West Seventeen perches, South twenty Six degr.ees West thirty two perches, South Seventy degr., West twenty six perches, South twenty Six degr., West thirty five perches, south fifty Seven degr., East fourthee perches, North twenty degr., East thirty perches, North eighty seven degr., East twenty perhces, north fifty eight degr., East thirty two perches and then with with a Straight line to the begining containing & laid out for Ten Acres more or less to be held of the Manor of Baltimore by the name of Harmans Vally, February the 6th 1760.

A correspondent of the Baltimore Sun writing from Marriottsville, under the date of August 11, 1885 says: "Devries old paper mill, on Piney falls, in Carroll county opposite this village".
