1754, Nov 22 - Court: Supersedeas Bond, William Grathous

At the Request of Samuel Beall the following supersedeas was Recorded November the Twenty Second Day In the Year of our Lord Seventeen hundred and Fifty Four To wit you William Grathous Edmond Ruter Daniel McCoy do confess Judgment To Samuel Bell Esqr. for the Sum of Fifty one Pounds of Tobo. and One Shilling & four pence Debt & 2/6 Cost wich Sum was Recoverd by the Said Samuel Bell against William Grathous on the 9th Day of Novr. 1754 Before Joseph Smith the said fifty one Pounds of Tobo. & one Shilling & four pence Debt and 2/6 Cost to be levied of your Bodies goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements for the use of the said Samuel Bell In Case the said William Grathous Shall not Pay and satisfie the additional Cost thereon on the tenth Day of February Next

1) SUPERSE'DEAS, n. In law, a writ of supersedeas, is a writ or command to suspend the powers of an officer in certain cases, or to stay proceedings. This writ does not destroy the power of an officer, for it may be revived by another writ called a procedendo.

2) While Daniel McCoy was named as a co-defendant in this supersedeas bond, he was previously named as a witness of the 1752 - Bill of Sale: Harmon Greathouse to James Walling, Steer.
