114 GRAND CHILDREN

Mrs. Sarah Tucker2 of Rush Creek of Henry’s Fork was here last week visiting her niece Mrs. Mary Hardman. Her grand-daughter, Mrs. Bob Phillips3, brought her to Reedy. Mrs. Tucker is one of the pioneer women of Roane Co., being a daughter of Jesse Tanner, one of the first settlers of Spencer and a sister of “Buffalo Jess” who formerly lived near Triplett.

She was 88 years old last Sept. 7. She was twice married and has nine children, all living.

Her first husband was Isaac Greathouse; he died 49 years ago. For a number of years they lived on Triplett at what is now the Adam Goebel farm. That was more than 50 years ago.4 Their eight children are as follows:

Irvan Greathouse of Richwood.
Calvin Greathouse in Wood County near Parkersburg.
Gus Greathouse of Clover, Roane County.
Mrs. Luverna Moore5 and Mrs. Tillie Greathouse on Rush of Henry’s Fork.
Mrs. Cyrus (Belle) Nicholas of Clover.
Mrs. Sol (Ida) Nicholas of Spring Creek near the Dave Simmons place.
Mrs. Della Hall in Clay County.

Her second husband was William Tucker.6 Their one daughter is Mrs. America Tanner of Rush of Henry’s Fork with whom Mrs. Tucker now lives. Mr. Tucker died about 30 years ago.

Mrs. Tucker is the mother of a large posterity. She has enumerated 114 grand-children and great-grand-children.

Mrs. Tucker, although feeble, gets about very good for a woman of her age, and bids fair to live many more years. Her father is said to have been more than 100 years of age at the time of his death.
