Will of William Greathouse

Harrison Co., W.Va. Will Bk. 1, p. 3, 25 March 1792, probated 17__. From: typed copy of the will, printing is faint. (LFJ).

In the name of God Amen, William Greathouse in the County of Harrison in the State of Virginia being weak in body but of sound and perfect memory Blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) first I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Barbary Greathouse my homestead place or farm where on I now live containing two hundred acres and being the residue of five hundred acres after the land of John Greathouse, Frederick Acores (sic, Aker) and Gabriel Greathouse (one hundred acres each) are laid? off together with all the live stock farmers utensils of every kind and also all my household stuff and furniture of every kind whatsoever for and during her natural life excepting such legacies as shall _______ be herein after mentioned. I do also give and bequeath to my two sons John and Gabriel my two rifle guns with their accouterments the choice to be decided by ballot between themselves —— I also give and bequeath unto my son William and Daughter Mary the value of the two above mentioned guns to be divided between them and paid to them in property and I also give and bequeath to my Daughter Caty Hartset one good ________ to be procured by my executors here after mentioned or the value thereof in property as she may choose. I also give and bequeath to my Daughter Anna Melie (sic, Amilie) McCarty five pounds to be paid in clothing for herself at the choice of her mother — and it is also my will and desire that my Executrix and Executor here after named shall and may at some convenient time after my decease cause to be surveyed the following tracts of land and Deeds for the same executed, to wit, to John Greathouse for one hundred acres to begin at my South west corner and Zach Davis’ NW corner thence along Bells and my west line north to Frederick Akores (sic, Aker) corner then along his line so far eastward as with a parallel line with the first or Bells Line will include one hundred acres --- also to Frederick, also beginning at John Greathouses corner in Bells line thence along the same north to my Ash Corner thence along the North Bounds of my original Patten so far Eastward as with a parallel line to Bells line will include one hundred acres. Also to Gabriel Greathouse to begin at John Greathouses corner in Zachariah Davis line thence along his line Eastward to the forked Walnut thence Northerly along the out bound of my original survey along another of Davis line so far as with a parallel line with the first as will include one hundred acres —the above three tracts or parcels of land I having heretofore been paid and settled for — and it is further my will and desire that at the decease of my wife that all the above mentioned tract of two hundred acres of land with farmers utentials stock and household stuff and furniture be sold by the acting executor and the moneys arising therefrom be equally divided between the whole of my children, share and share alike and I do hereby appoint my said beloved wife Executrix and Joseph Shelton Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made giving my said Executrix and Executor full power and authority to perform every needful thing in the law in fulfilling the same. In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty fifth day of March one thousand seven hundred and ninety one.
