Belmont County Chronology 1801, Sep 7 - BELMONT created by the Northwest Territory from JEFFERSON and WASHINGTON. (Terr. Papers U.S., 3:528; Chase, 3:ch. 341/p. 2098) 1803, Mar 1 - BELMONT became a county in the state of Ohio. (U.S. Stat., vol. 2, ch. 40 [1802], secs. 1-3/pp. 173-174; Van Zandt, 112) 1810, Mar 1 - BELMONT lost to creation of GUERNSEY. (Ohio Laws 1809, 8th assy., ch. 20, secs. 1-2, 4/pp. 65-67; Chase, 3:ch. 380/p. 2112) 1813, Jan 29 - BELMONT lost to creation of MONROE; MONROE not fully organized, part attached to BELMONT for administrative and judicial purposes. (Ohio Laws 1812, 11th assy., ch. 25/p. 57; Chase, 3:ch. 396/p. 2117) 1815, Mar 1 - MONROE fully organized, detached from BELMONT. (Ohio Laws 1814, 13th assy., ch. 36, secs. 1, 2, 6/pp. 128-129; Chase, 3:ch. 402/pp. 2120-2121) The eastern boundary of the county was the Ohio River, across which, were the adjacent counties of VA... Ohio County est. in 1776, Brooke County est. in 1797 and Marshall County est. in 1835.
