Belmont County Chronology 1801, Sep 7 - BELMONT created by the Northwest Territory from JEFFERSON and WASHINGTON. (Terr. Papers U.S., 3:528; Chase, 3:ch. 341/p. 2098) 1803, Mar 1 - BELMONT became a county in the state of Ohio. (U.S. Stat., vol. 2, ch. 40 [1802], secs. 1-3/pp. 173-174; Van Zandt, 112) 1810, Mar 1 - BELMONT lost to creation of GUERNSEY. (Ohio Laws 1809, 8th assy., ch. 20, secs. 1-2, 4/pp. 65-67; Chase, 3:ch. 380/p. 2112) 1813, Jan 29 - BELMONT lost to creation of MONROE; MONROE not fully organized, part attached to BELMONT for administrative and judicial purposes. (Ohio Laws 1812, 11th assy., ch. 25/p. 57; Chase, 3:ch. 396/p. 2117) 1815, Mar 1 - MONROE fully organized, detached from BELMONT.
