The Greathouse Y-DNA results chart below contains the results for participants, whose lineage through Herman Groethausen has been supported by either genealogical documentation and/or genetically by their Y-DNA results matching the ancestral baseline or modal haplotype established for Herman Groethausen.

The ancestral baseline or modal haplotype for Herman Groethausen [born 1670; emigrated from Bielefeld, Ravensberg, Brandenburg, Prussia, to Springfield, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1710] was originally established by a majority of participants' Y-DNA results matching at 100% across 43 STR markers. Continued Y-DNA testing has resulted in the discovery of one [1] participant's Y-DNA results which match the calculated ancestral baseline or modal haplotype for Herman Groethausen at 100% across 67 STR markers, as represented by the Y-DNA results for Participant 036. Basically, the Y-DNA results obtained from this participant have been passed down to him, preserved without change through the years, so that if Herman Groethausen's Y-DNA could be tested, the results would be the same as those of Participant 036. In addition to, the ancestral baseline or modal haplotype for Herman Groethausen has gained further support by seven [7] participants who share a Y-DNA match at 100% across 67 STR markers. The results for participants whose lineage through Herman Groethausen has been supported by genealogical documentation have been represented by the name of the participants' ancestor who was the grandson of Herman. The results for participants, whose Y-DNA suggests that Herman Groethausen was genetically their most recent common ancestor, have been represented by the name of the earliest male Greathouse ancestor the participants' lineage has been tracked through based upon genealogical documentation.

The results in this chart have been sorted into family groups based on the birth year of the ancestor and then by closest match to the ancestral baseline or modal haplotype for Herman Groethausen. The purpose of this chart is to present the ancestors that Y-DNA results have been obtained for, along with the number of participants representing each ancestor's family.

General Notes:

• Our ancestral haplotype for Herman Groethausen has been chosen because a majority of the participants tested so far have an exact match on at least 43 markers. All variations from this 43 marker haplotype are considered to be mutations from the ancestral haplotype. Currently there are ten [10] participants whose Y-DNA results match our ancestral haplotype for Herman Groethausen at 100% across 43 markers. See the Summary Results for more information.
• The last nine markers in the results table above will only be available for participants who have tested with DNA Heritage or if a participant has ordered those markers individually from Family Tree DNA.
• Best Y-DNA Match: A 75/76 marker match has been discovered between Participants 001 and 016. They are descendants of John Greathouse Senior and Sarah McDade through their sons, Edward "Ned" and John B. Jr., respectively. The variation seen when their results are compared is found on marker DYS 413b, where on Particpant 001 we have observed a duplicated STR marker due to recombinational loss of heterozygosity (recLOH). E.g. first we have the alleles 23-25, after recombination we have 23-23. The most likely allele values for DYS 413a/b between these participants would be: DYS 413a = 23 and DYS 413b = 25.
• For those participants whose lineage has been documented through Herman Groethausen, the grandson of Herman whom they represent, has been named, with the State their death occurred in, ie... [Jacob of GA]; [Harman of MD]; [William of VA] and etc.
