1) Excerpt from Ralph Hall Sayre, Sayre Family ...another 100 years, Volume 1, New York: iUniverse, Inc. Page 235:

Gallia County, Ohio recorded the 19 June 1806 marriage of Daniel Sayre and Sarah Hall by Fuller Elliott, J. P. Much is written in Ohio history about Fuller Elliott. He was an educated pioneer leader who finally settled somewhere close to the Letart area. He served as minister and justice of the peace, and was a friend of the Sayre families. Letart Falls was a part of Gallia County prior to the 1839 formation of Meigs County, OH.

2) Question: Was John Greathouse and Sarah McDade married by Fuller Elliott, J. P. of Letart Falls, Gallia County, OH? This couple was not named among the marriage returns of Francis Watkins, J. P. of Point Pleasant, Mason County, WV between 1806 and 1809. View @ Fold3 [ Page 1 | Page 2 ]

3) John Parsons married Mary Greathouse in Belmont County, OH in 1804. If Mary Greathouse's age was between 15 and 18 at the time of her marriage in 1804, then she would have been born between 1786 and 1789.

Article: 1804 - Marriage Return: John Parsons and Mary Greathouse, Belmont County, OH

4) While Mary Greathouse's presence in Belmont County, OH coincided with John & Rohanah Greathouse Stackhouse moving from Harrison County, VA to York, Belmont County, OH between 1801 and 1805, the relationship between Rohanah Greathouse, wife of John Stackhouse and daughter of William Jr. & Mary Greathouse of Harrison County, VA; Mary Greathouse, wife of John Parsons; and John Greathouse, husband of Sarah McDade cannot be determined at this time. Yet it does appear plausible that Rohanah Greathouse and Mary Greathouse could have been sisters.

Article: 1798 - Marriage Bond/Return: John Stackhouse and Rohanah Greathouse, Harrison County, WV

Article: 1801-1805 - Settlement: John & Rohanah Greathouse Stackhouse, York Township, Belmont County, OH

5) However, the 1866 intestate estate settlement of John Greathouse recorded in Roane County, WV, in which only children of Sarah McDade Greathouse were named as heirs/distributees of their father's estate, would exclude John Greathouse from having been the brother of Rohanah Greathouse, named as [John] Leonard Greathouse, who married Sarah Parsons in Harrison County, VA on 8 Nov 1801 and had two sons with her, Isaac Greathouse, born about 1802; and Leonard Greathouse, born about 1804. Considering that those sons were residing amongst John & Sarah McDade Greathouse and their children in Jackson, Wirt and Roane County, VA between 1837 and 1861, but neither Isaac Greathouse nor Leonard Greathouse were named as heirs/distributees in the 1866 intestate estate settlement of John Greathouse, it does not appear plausible for John Greathouse to have been the brother of Rohanah Greathouse, named as [John] Leonard Greathouse, husband of Sarah Parsons and father of Isaac & Leonard Greathouse, before he was married to Sarah McDade in Mason County, VA about 17 Sep 1806.

6) Who was the father of John Greathouse, who married Sarah McDade about 17 Sep 1806 and "Died: July 4, 1866, Aged: 88 ys \ 4 ms [Calculated Birth: March 1778; Calculated Conception: June 1777]?

Spencer Memorial Cemetery, Parkersburg Road - Route 14, Spencer, Roane County, WV. 1866, Jul 4 - Headstone: John Gratehouse Sen., Died: July 4, 1866, Aged: 88 ys \ 4 ms. Edward Greathouse, son and executor of John Greathouse's estate entered into a contract with a stonecutter in Ravenswood, WV to obtain a headstone for his father's grave in Jul 1866. The headstone was placed at his father's grave by Nov 1866. The inscription on the headstone, "John Gratehouse Sen., Died: July 4, 1866, Aged: 88 ys \ 4 ms ", was probably given to the stonecutter by Edward Greathouse in Jul 1866.
