We welcome your continued interest, help and support as we strive to provide an excellent research tool through Greathouse Point, for all Greathouse and associated families.

We encourage you to visit Greathouse Point often. But please don't just visit Greathouse Point and leave. We need your help. One way to help is through our Greathouse County project, http://greathouse.us/county.

By visiting libraries and courthouses in Greathouse counties and obtaining copies or extracts of records which our Greathouse or associated ancestors left behind, we can more accurately build our Greathouse family history. We are focusing on original documents which were created at or near the time of events which occurred in the lives of our ancestors, to build a firmer foundation for all our Greathouse or associated ancestors, particularly those of the 1700's or early 1800's. If you have copies of marriages, wills or other documents in your files, please share those also, by emailing a copy to: Research@Greathouse.us.

The following reports in our Greathouse County project have been updated:

  • Greathouse of Harrison County, W-VA [Added 12 Apr 1797 court record regarding a horse thief who stole a horse from an enclosure on Barbara Greathouse's farm and 17 Jul 1797 estate inventory for William Greathouse, which includes a petition by William, John & Gabriel Greathouse and Mary Aker for the court to record the estate inventory after Barbara Greathouse neglected to return the inventory to the court. Barbara appears to have died between 12 Apr and 17 Jul 1797. Joseph Skelton declared himself as the surviving executor of the estate of William Greathouse, deceased. Added additional events in the Greathouse timeline for the county, between 1797 - 1803.]

The "Results" and "Summary Results" [network diagram has not been updated] pages for our Greathouse Surname DNA Project has been updated to show the Y-DNA results for our 30th participant. He is a descendant of the John Greathouse m. Elizabeth family, through their son, David Greathouse who married Sarah Callender.

His Y-DNA results match the ancestral haplotype for Herman Groethausen [Lineage I (Haplogroup I1 - Northern Europe)], which has been established by a group of participants, whose Y-DNA results match at 100% across 43 markers. With the addition of this participant's Y-DNA results to the group, we now have nine (9) participants, upon which our ancestral haplotype for Herman Groethausen has been determined. Additionally there are twelve (12) participants in this group, whose Y-DNA results vary on one (1) to four (4) markers from the established ancestral haplotype for Herman Groethausen.

Wanted: Greathouse Males to participate in our DNA Project to help establish your lineage. Greathouse ancestral lines have been researched by members of Guild Greathouse, since 1996, but the male y-chromosome can confirm lineages. Your line must be continuous through Greathouse males, and all who qualify are encouraged to participate. For more information, email Greathouse DNA. . .
